Dental Implants in Amsterdam

Dental Implants in Amsterdam | From EUR 1,450

Losing a tooth can affect far more than your smile. It changes how you eat, how you speak, and how you feel about yourself. If you are an expat in Amsterdam dealing with a missing tooth — or several — you may have been searching for a reliable, affordable solution in a language you understand. At AltaDent, we provide high-quality dental implants starting from EUR 1,450, and every step of the process is explained to you in clear English.

Our team has placed thousands of implants over the past 17 years. With our own dental laboratory on-site, we control quality from start to finish while keeping costs well below what many Amsterdam clinics charge.

What Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is a small titanium post that is placed into your jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. Once the implant has bonded with the bone — a process called osseointegration — a custom-made crown is attached on top. The result is a replacement tooth that looks, feels, and functions just like your natural teeth.

Implants are the gold standard for tooth replacement because they:

  • Prevent bone loss in the jaw
  • Do not affect neighbouring healthy teeth (unlike bridges)
  • Last 15 to 25 years or longer with proper care
  • Restore full chewing strength and a natural appearance

The Implant Procedure at AltaDent

Step 1: Free consultation and assessment

Your journey begins with a complimentary consultation. We examine your mouth, take digital X-rays or a 3D scan, and discuss your options. You receive a detailed treatment plan with a clear cost breakdown — no hidden fees.

Step 2: Implant placement

The titanium implant is placed into the jawbone under local anaesthesia. The procedure typically takes 30 to 60 minutes per implant. Most patients report less discomfort than they expected.

Step 3: Healing period

Over the next 3 to 6 months, the implant integrates with your jawbone. During this time, we can provide a temporary tooth so you are never left with a visible gap.

Step 4: Crown placement

Once healing is complete, we place the permanent crown. Because we have our own dental laboratory, your crown is crafted on-site to match the exact colour, shape, and size of your natural teeth. The result is a seamless, natural-looking tooth.

Costs and Insurance

Dental implant pricing in Amsterdam varies significantly from clinic to clinic. At AltaDent, our implant treatments start from EUR 1,450. This competitive price is possible because we manufacture crowns and prosthetics in our own on-site laboratory, eliminating the markups that come with external labs.

What is included in the price?

  • Free initial consultation
  • Implant (titanium post)
  • Abutment (connector piece)
  • Custom-made crown from our own lab
  • Follow-up appointments

Insurance coverage

Dental implants are not covered by Dutch basic insurance (basisverzekering). However, many supplementary dental insurance plans (aanvullende tandartsverzekering) do cover implants partially or fully, depending on your policy level. Some plans cover 70% to 100% of implant costs.

AltaDent is contracted with all Dutch insurance companies, which means we bill your insurer directly. Before treatment begins, we check your coverage and provide a clear overview of what you will pay out of pocket — if anything.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are dental implants painful?

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, so you feel no pain during placement. Afterward, most patients experience mild discomfort for a few days, manageable with over-the-counter pain relief. Many patients tell us it was far less painful than they feared.

How long do dental implants last?

With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, dental implants typically last 15 to 25 years. The titanium post itself can last a lifetime. The crown on top may need replacement after 15 to 20 years due to normal wear.

Am I a good candidate for implants?

Most adults with good general health are suitable candidates. Sufficient jawbone density is needed to support the implant. During your free consultation, we assess your bone structure and discuss alternatives if implants are not the best option for you.

Can I get implants if I have been missing teeth for a long time?

Yes. Even if you have been without a tooth for years, implants are often still possible. In cases where bone loss has occurred, a bone graft procedure can rebuild the foundation needed. We will assess this during your consultation.
