Dentures in Amsterdam: Custom-Made in Our Own Lab
Whether you have recently lost teeth or have been wearing ill-fitting dentures for years, finding the right solution in a new country can feel overwhelming. Where do you start? Will your Dutch insurance cover it? Will the dentist understand what you need — literally and figuratively? At AltaDent in Amsterdam, the answer is yes on all counts. We speak your language, we craft dentures in our own on-site laboratory, and we guide you through every step in clear English.
Our denture specialists have over 17 years of experience and have completed more than 4,497 treatments. Because we design and manufacture dentures right here in our clinic, we offer something most Amsterdam practices cannot: a perfect fit, faster turnaround, and direct adjustments without the wait.
Types of Dentures We Offer
Full dentures (complete dentures)
Full dentures replace all of the teeth in the upper jaw, lower jaw, or both. Modern full dentures are made from high-quality acrylic and are designed to look natural and feel comfortable. They rest on the gums and are held in place by suction and the natural contours of your mouth.
Partial dentures
If you still have some healthy natural teeth remaining, a partial denture fills in the gaps. Partial dentures are supported by your remaining teeth using metal or flexible clasps, giving them a stable and secure fit while preserving your natural teeth.
Immediate dentures
If teeth need to be extracted, immediate dentures are prepared in advance and placed on the same day as the extraction. This means you never have to go without teeth. As your gums heal and change shape over the following months, we adjust the fit at no extra charge.
Our 3-Appointment Process
Because AltaDent has its own dental laboratory, we can complete your dentures in as few as three appointments — significantly faster than clinics that outsource to external labs.
Appointment 1: Consultation and impressions
We examine your mouth, discuss your preferences (tooth shape, colour, fit), and take precise impressions. Our lab technician may also meet with you directly to ensure the best possible result.
Appointment 2: Try-in
A wax model of your new denture is created in our lab. You try it in to check the fit, bite, and appearance. This is your chance to request adjustments before the final denture is made. Because our lab is on-site, changes can often be done while you wait.
Appointment 3: Fitting
Your finished denture is placed. We make any final adjustments to ensure comfort and a natural bite. You leave with your new smile the same day.
Follow-up visits are included to fine-tune the fit as your mouth adjusts. Most patients find their new dentures comfortable within a few weeks.
Insurance and Costs
Dentures in the Netherlands are partially covered by most supplementary dental insurance plans (aanvullende tandartsverzekering). Coverage typically ranges from 50% to 100%, depending on your plan level and whether you are getting your first denture or a replacement.
Basic insurance (basisverzekering) does not cover dentures for most adults. However, some exceptions apply in specific medical situations.
AltaDent is contracted with all Dutch health insurance companies. We bill your insurer directly, so you only pay your personal share — if any. Before starting treatment, our team checks your exact coverage and provides a full cost breakdown, so you always know what to expect.
Because we manufacture dentures in our own laboratory, our prices are often lower than clinics that rely on external labs. You get better quality and a lower bill.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to get used to new dentures?
Most patients adjust to new dentures within 2 to 4 weeks. During this period, you may experience some minor soreness or difficulty with certain foods. We schedule follow-up appointments to make adjustments and ensure your comfort throughout the process.
How often should dentures be replaced?
Dentures typically last 5 to 8 years. Over time, the shape of your gums and jawbone changes, which can affect the fit. Regular check-ups allow us to monitor the fit and recommend a replacement when needed. Many supplementary insurance plans cover a new denture every 5 years.
Can you fix my existing dentures if they do not fit well?
Often, yes. If your current dentures are loose or uncomfortable, we can reline or adjust them in our on-site lab, sometimes on the same day. If the denture is too old or damaged to repair effectively, we will recommend a replacement and explain the costs and insurance coverage.
What is the difference between dentures and snap-on dentures?
Standard dentures rest on your gums, while snap-on dentures (klikgebit) click onto dental implants for a more secure fit. Snap-on dentures do not shift or slip and provide a stronger bite. We offer both options and can help you decide which is best for your situation during a free consultation.
